Quotes That Kept Me Writing (When All I Wanted To Do Was Stop)

Quotes Rock
When I started writing my book, it consumed me; I was determined to slow down only after I finished. Occasionally, negativity played with my mind and scoffed, “Why are you doing this? Will you be able to finish what you started? What makes you the expert, huh? What if no one wants to read it? I hope you’re not expecting to get famous or anything…” Once it got started, it was difficult to get it to shut up.
Luckily, certain quotes helped restore my hope and sanity.

These are the ones that always hit the spot and helped me write:

“Write the book you want to read, the one you cannot find.”
― Carol Shields

“Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.

“Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.”
― Arthur Ashe

“Just be yourself. Let people see the real, imperfect, flawed, quirky, weird, beautiful, magical person that you are.”
― Mandy Hale

and When the self-doubt spun out of control, these words helped me get some perspective

“Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’t.”
― Bill Nye

“It’s always agonizing waiting for the cake you’re baking to rise. Especially when you want to eat it right away. And just because you turn up the temperature of the oven doesn’t mean the cake will bake any faster.”
― Wintley Phipps

“It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”
― J.K. Rowling

“I think sometimes we get confused and believe that our gift must bring us money or success or fame. Sometimes those things do happen, but not usually. The only thing a gift needs to do is bring you joy. You must find the thing that brings you joy in the doing of that thing, and not worry about the outcome. Your gift might be crucial and obviously helpful, like being a good listener, or it might be odd and unique.”
― Glennon Doyle Melton

Quotes are scrumptious tidbits of inspiration, aren’t they? That’s why Busting Clichés is full of them – one quote for each cliché. I can’t think of a more universally appealing way to get a point across, can you? Let me know your views.
