I Am SAD Whenever It Rains

Ready To Work

Plaque sourced from Etsy. Feelings all mine. (Note to self: Must wash And comb hair tomorrow)

It’s official: the monsoon has arrived in my city. And with it, so have my bouts of sadness. Don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of the changes that come with the rains. The winds are cool, everything is green and most importantly, the farmers are safe for another year. What’s not to like, right? Look at this lush view from my window and tell me it does not make you feel alive:

Rain On My Street

But of course, with the good comes the bad. So quite often, heavy showers and the dull gloomy weather they bring along make me feel blah. Yes, I am one of those people who have SAD aka Seasonal Affective Disorder. Since it rained really hard in the afternoon, that photo at the top should give you an idea of how dull and uninspired I have been feeling ever since. I am literally sad when it rains.

Hardly surprising then that I couldn’t get any work done today. Instead of replying to my emails, I found myself reading heartbreaking news about Princess Diana. How I wish she didn’t have to go through all that pain…no creature should. That worsened my already fragile state of mind and soon I had a throbbing headache, both of which ensured that I take the day off.

As I downed a headache pill with my strongly brewed ginger tea, I caught up on a ton of interesting content online, some of which I had bookmarked previously but hadn’t found the time to peruse. Here are some assorted posts which I thought you would enjoy as well:

Guilt and other feelings aside it felt good not following my to-do list for a change. Emails, articles and everything else in between, I’ll get you tomorrow. Time to wrap up this Debbie Downer of a day with a much-needed episode of Supernatural.

PS If you think you have a bad case of SAD, here’s what you should do to deal with it.

How does the rain make you feel? Do share with me in the comments below.

  1. I love it when it rains. Sucks that it doesn’t perk up everyone’s mood like it does for me.
By the way, you look beautiful.

  2. I love rain, but I don’t really know how monsoons would affect me, as my country has none. Still, a good rain storm (or if I’m lucky: a thunderstorm!) can really make me happy. Walking in the rain is so magical. And sitting inside sipping tea while reading a good book when it’s pouring out generally makes my day.

Not even talking about how good it feels to give yourself a foot bath when it’s thundering outside! :)

But still: never experienced a monsoon. I reckon after a few days of nothing but rain I’d join you being miserable. I hope your spirits will lift soon :)

    1. The way you put it sounds pretty darn amazing.
It’s not all that bad…bright colors, music and coffee always help :)

  3. I can understand how the weather and seasons can impact our moods. I know I notice it in myself when there is a lot of rain (or snow). Glad you had a good day not doing your to do list. :)

  4. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a very hard thing to deal with but I applaud you for speaking out about it. It’s something that needs to be spoken more about. Wishing you courage and healing!

  5. I live in an area where it’s always “beautiful and sunny”…I miss the changes in weather. I would get excited if it sprinkled here. However, we recently had almost a month of cloudy days and I was seriously feeling the blues. I had to make myself get up and do things. I hope the weather clears up soon so that you can go out and get some sunshine.

    1. Beautiful and sunny…sounds heavenly. That’s exactly what’s happening to me! Just a few months more for the rain to leave…and then it will be winter. It’s a long wait till the sun comes out, unfortunately. Thankfully, things like caffeine and the right company help :)

  6. Hi there! I actually suffer from severe depression and anxiety and sometimes the weather just doesn’t help at all. I’m actually the opposite of you though. I am in the like 1-2% of people who actually get more depressed during the summer. I live in a very hot, dry climate and I just don’t do well in that. I get painful headaches every day and have what I can only describe as severe hot flashes during the hottest part of the day. It’s terrible and I don’t feel like doing much at all. We’re at the hottest point of the year and will likely remain in the triple digits until around August. Did I mention our air conditioning sucks? Lol. I try and just take it one minute at a time and so far I’m doing a little better than last year but then again, that’s not saying much. Ha ha.

I hope you feel better soon though, I know how tough it could be when you’re down and you still have things that have to get done.

    1. Sigh. That’s tough. Scientists, Pharmacists, whoever can, please fix this for us! It would be a blessing to not have our mental health be dictated by the weather! Until then, here’s hoping we keep hanging on ❤️

  7. I’m very neutral when it comes to accept the change. Maybe because of my acceptance to things made me feel like this.

If I talk about this blog post? Wonderful. I just loved your writing Mahevash, your English and vocabulary is amazing. I loved it completely.

Looking forward to read more and more. ?
    All the best Mahevash. ?

    1. That’s a great attitude.
Thanks, I am really very glad you enjoyed it, Sumit. Keep visiting :)
