As 2023 ends, I wonder why, year after year, we celebrate the new year. After all, time remains the same; only the date changes, right? (Bear with me…2023 has been terrible.)
Well, that’s the point of celebrating a new year – to forget about the past and start afresh. The transition from one year to the next serves as a symbolic opportunity to leave behind past challenges and embrace a new beginning. Celebration through gatherings, fireworks, or other traditions contributes to a sense of joy, community, and shared optimism.
Did you have a rough year as well? If yes, it’s understandable if you question the significance of a new year. However, know that celebration can be a way to acknowledge resilience, express gratitude for the positive aspects of life, and look forward to brighter days ahead. At the very least, an acknowledgment will do if you aren’t in the mood to celebrate. That’s what I will be doing anyway: acknowledging that 2023 is over and 2024 is beginning.
I hope that 2024 brings with it positive changes and new opportunities. Wishing you a hopeful and fulfilling New Year!
